Post #1 – Memoir and Fiction, Writing Alchemy – Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett
Welcome. Kendra and I are working on our next book. This one is for writers of all genres, not just memoir. We don’t have a final title for the book but it will be called Writing Alchemy: xxx. The xxx is still to be determined. We’ve been through a number of possible titles already. After all, it’s a lot more fun to think about titles than actually write. Here are a few:
The Art and Science of Writing Alchemy
Discover the Five Secret Elements that Will Change Your Writing Forever
Five Magical Elements that Turn Your Words Into Gold: Secrets of Writing Alchemy
You get the idea. For now, we just call the book Writing Alchemy. At some point, we’ll firm up the title.
While we’re working, we decided it would be fun to share some of the sage advice from well-known writers that we’ve uncovered in our explorations into the literature on writing. We’re beginning with a series of five minute audios. Each will contain a nugget of wisdom passed to us through the books we’re reading on to you. There’s no logic to our topics — just whatever appeals to us when it is time to do the next audio. Perhaps over time, we’ll develop a series of themes. Who knows. For now, we invite you to come along with us. We’re providing quick tips that hopefully will give you a new thought about your writing or will inspire you in your lonely endeavor.
We’d be delighted to hear from you. Your Comments, entered below, will be read by both of us. At least one of us will answer, depending on the particular topic. Have a question? Fire away.
Here’s the first audio. Kendra was reading Stephen King’s book on writing, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Stephen King’s On Writing is a valuable volume and belongs on your bookshelf for easy access. If you would like to get a copy, we appreciate you purchasing through our link to Amazon. We get a small percentage of your purchases and it doesn’t cost you anything extra.
Until next time,
Matilda and Kendra
