Post #52 – Women’s Memoirs, Writing Prompt – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler
Most weeks either Matilda or our correspondent in Oregon “Promptly Portland” creates our memoir writing prompts. And we know, from your traffic, that you approve. We get more visits on Writing Prompt Tuesdays than any other day of the week.
Well, sorry, neither Promptly or Matilda are available today. Matilda has transformed herself into a big, burly furniture mover for the day…all 5 feet, what? 2 of her. I’m sure she’ll be turning her efforts to get her home ready to sell into a future writing prompt.
So today I’ve jumped into the breach to help out. But I’m not going to give you a conventional writing prompt. Actually it’s not a writing prompt at all, but it’s something that I think you’ll find interesting. And I’m hoping it will ultimately stimulate your writing and your platform building.
As some of you know, I’m a big fan of marketing guru and serial author of provocative marketing books, Seth Godin. I’m on his list to receive his daily blog posts. And just as writing prompts stimulate your work, Seth’s idea prompts stimulate my work.
Today, I want to share one of his blogs. Yesterday he posted an audio recording of a recent talk he gave to the Independent Book Publishers. He calls the post “The new dynamics of book publishing,” and you can click on the title here to go and listen. It’s about 45 minutes long, and I think it’s time well spent. I think you’ll understand too why I am such an advocate for small, independent publishers. They are the future. And you can either be part of them…or you can be them.
Enjoy.
