Post #78 – Women’s Memoirs, Book Business – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler
Are these your salad days? The greens are from my garden. I'm not growing the chicken...yet!
Are these your salad days?
If you prefer the traditional definition of the term, which refers to one’s salad days as that time of youthful inexperience and indiscretions, then you thankfully may be beyond that careless time in your life. Perhaps, instead, you are striving to recapture your youth and put it into words for your memoir.
If, however, you favor the more modern definition of “salad days”–which refers to one’s heyday, those years when we are at the top of our game, and that Wikipedia says is the most common usage in the United States–then you may be making salad as I write.
In either case, your salad days may be rich material for your memoir.
As for me, I am quite literally making salad as I write. More accurately my garden is growing the vegetables that I will eat tonight. I guess that makes the summer of 2011 my salad days. And by the way, it’s the best tasting lettuce I have ever had. I’m dreaming about the tomatoes.
