Post #151 – Women’s Memoirs, Writing Prompt – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler
Women’s Memoirs Celebrates Kendra’s Birthday
If you are one of our many regular readers, then you probably remember last June when my partner and I went to the East coast to help Kendra celebrate her 60th birthday. We called it the Fabulous Final Fifties Fling. And celebrate we did..museums, restaurants, plays, musical events, and more.
Much to Kendra’s surprise (and mine), it seems that a year has passed and today is her birthday. No in-person visit this time. Instead we talked via Skype this year and she assures me she’s having a great day — something about building a chicken coop. I’m sure there will be more stories as the chickens arrive in her life.
Kendra’s Birthday and Two Memoir Writing Prompts
We always want to inspire you to write, even when you think you have no time to officially sit down, think through a scene or vignette about your life, and launch into a serious writing session. Try this to get your creative juices flowing.
Memoir Writing Prompt #1. Think of someone special in your life. This might be your third-grade teacher or your best friend from kindergarten or your sister or your daughter or your neighbor. You might still be in touch with the person or not. Pretend that today is her or his birthday and write a birthday greeting. Perhaps you’ll begin with a special memory about the person and then write what your wishes are for that person.
Memoir Writing Prompt #2. Kendra writes awe-inspiring blog posts on this site. We often joke that I write more frequent articles but she writes better ones. If you have especially enjoyed some of her articles, write for five minutes about your wish for her in this coming year. This can just be something you write as an exercise — a wish for a person who regularly creates articles to help you in your writing life — or you might want to send her a greeting in the Comments section below.
Then return tomorrow and the rest of this week when we share the best of Dorothy Parker.
