Memoir Writing: Listen to the Words and the Emotions of Joan Didion

As writers, we struggle with living our stories and then struggle with writing them. Neither is easy. In this beautiful video, Joan Didion reads the second chapter of her memoir Blue Nights. As you listen to her prose, you seem to join her in the struggle to make sense of her daughter’s death in a way that a writer can pose questions and then seek to answer them, not really knowing if she has the answer.

I invite you to listen and learn.

We don’t have to know all the answers to share our lives with others.
