We’re Looking for Women Writers Looking to Improve Their Skills and Network with Other Women

Two news items today — a conference for women writing their life stories and an online class to help women become better writers.

1. Stories from the Heart VI Conference

Do you know about Stories From the Heart VI Conference? This is Story Circle Network’s marvelous and inspiring bi-annual writing conference for women interested in memoir writing. If you already know about this and haven’t signed up yet, I just want to remind you that the conference fees go up February 15.

In case you have missed our other posts, you might not know Story Circle Network. It is the premier organization for women writing their life stories. SCN is:

“…dedicated to helping women share the stories of their lives and to raising public awareness of the importance of women’s personal histories.”

Stories From the Heart VI will be held in Austin, Texas from April 13-15, 2012.

(that’s Kendra’s workshop); Creating an Awesome and Sustaining Blog; Writing Alchemy: New, Fast, Fun, Cool, Quick-Start Method (and that’s my workshop), and many more.

In addition to the workshops, there are keynote speakers, one-on-one coaching, panels, story sharing, two preconference special workshops and plenty of time to meet and talk with other women. Trust me. After the last session, you’ll want to still linger, unwilling to say goodbye to new and old friends.

REGISTER NOW. Conference prices go up February 15.

Kendra and I will be at the conference along with other incredible presenters. We’re pleased to be teaching one of the two pre-conference workshop — It’s 10 pm, Do You Know Where Your Story Is? Seven Steps to Successful Story Structure (enrollment is limited so sign up as soon as you can) as well as two of the many conference workshops. We’ve also been asked to participate in the one-on-one Heart-to-Heart coaching (also limited spaces available).

Testimonials:

One of our recent students, Sherrey M., wrote the following on another website and gave us permission to republish it here:

I found this to be a great class, my first online class experience. Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett taught the class, and it was based on the process described in their new book, Writing Alchemy (see www.womensmemoirs.com).

As instructors, both Matilda and Kendra were well organized, responded with clarity in their critiques of assignments, and were more than willing to answer any and all questions.

The goal of the class was to step through writing a story in memoir style using the alchemy process — deconstruction and then construction. With each assignment, we completed one phase of the writing process beginning with a synopsis, then establishing characters, writing the story using only dialogue and then bringing everything together in a final draft of our story. This barely touches on what Matilda and Kendra brought to us in the description of the assignments and reading materials.

It is a class I highly recommend if it is offered again.

Thanks Sherrey.
