Post #14 – Women’s Memoirs, News and Announcements – Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett
We’ve just received news that we’ve been given a Superior Scribbler Award for our blogs. Read more to see who gave us the award and the bloggers we’re awarding.
We’re pleased to announce that Karen Walker, author of the inspiring memoir Following the Whispers has given us the Superior Scribbler Award for our blog’s information in support of women writing their memoirs. Thank you Karen. We’re honored.

One of the rules for Superior Scribbler Award recipients is that they pass the award on to five other noteworthy bloggers. Ah. Not an easy task. Kendra and I value so many blogs. We made our separate lists, got together (on the phone), and discussed the incredible creativity and value in what each of the bloggers provides. With apologies to the many other bloggers that we enjoy and follow but who didn’t make it to our final list, we present the Superior Scribbler Award to:
Susan Wittig Albert — best-selling author of the China Bayles series, The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter, The Robin Paige Victorian Mysteries, and at least five non-fiction books; founder of Story Circle Network. We give this award for the high standard Susan sets for all writers, for her passion for the land and grounding our stories in a sense of place, and for creating a welcoming organization for women to tell their stories. Her blog is called Lifescapes. Her just pubished memoir is: Together, Alone: A Memoir of Marriage and Place
Susan Tweit — scientist and award-winning author with five non-fiction books, a memoir, and two children’s books under her belt. We give this award for Susan’s scrumptuous blog that shares her thoughts about nature, about life, about writing, and, not to be ignored, shares some fabulous recipes featuring fresh produce from her garden in Colorado. Her blog carries the same name as her recent memoir. For more information about her memoir: Walking Nature Home: A Life’s Journey (Louann Atkins Temple Women & Culture)
Janet Riehl — an artist in the best and broadest sense of the word, creating art with objects, with words and with music. We give this award for Janet’s constant source of inspiration and creativity found in each of her blogs. She helps us not get stuck in a single creative rut. In true creative fashion, her memoir Sightlines: A Poet’s Diary is available both in book and CD form with the audio version filled with singing, fiddles, mandolin, and guitar as well as Janet’s story poems, truly an expanded family love story.
Jessica Bram — author, award-winning radio commentator, and founder of the Westport Writers Workshop. We give this award for Jessica’s willingness to be so open in her memoir Happily Ever After Divorce: Notes of a Joyful Journey, and for the way she has continued that openness in her blog that features her post-divorce life.
Kim Pearson — award-winning author, ghost writer. We give this award for Kim’s blogs that reflect her passion for history that she beautifully weaves into its intersection with writing about our lives. Oh yes, and we do like (and sometimes laugh about) her weekly Haiku. Kim’s book of particular interest to memoir writers is: Making History: How to remember, record, interpret, and share the events in your life. And watch Women’s Memoirs in the near future as Kim will be doing some guest blogging for us.
Congratulations Susan Wittig Albert, Susan Tweit, Janet Riehl, Jessica Bram, and Kim Pearson.
