Post #33 – Women’s Memoirs, Book Business – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler
If you’re good at writing your life stories but having trouble getting all your vignettes to connect and hang together as a book, you may be having trouble with theme and message. Before you give up and convince yourself that your story could work just as well as a series of vignettes, essays or diary entries, why not try writing a Six-Word Memoir. It might just get you thinking about the bigger picture.
I found several videos on YouTube about Six-Word Memoirs, and that got me thinking… If I could tell my memoir in six words, I might just get some insight into theme and message. I’ve added a couple of videos to get you thinking about your six-word memoir.
If you need more information, check out Smith magazine online–the recognized home of the the Six-Word Memoir.
So have a little fun. Distill your message down to six words. And maybe you’ll find your theme and message–your larger story–which will help you stitch all those standalone stories together into a book. And one more benefit: Once you have your theme and message, you’ll have a clearer vision of your platform for marketing and promoting your work.
And if you come up with something good, you can submit your Six-Word Memoir to Smith. Maybe you’ll get featured, which would be some free publicity for your book.
