Post #45 – Women’s Memoirs, Book Business – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler
We’ve been having fun studying the book trailers (especially the memoir book trailers) posted on YouTube. We’ve found them instructive…and hope they’re equally useful to all of you.
For a light bit this Sunday, we thought it would be fun to combine our video viewing with a SurveyMonkey question…actually two questions this week.
But first, here are the results of our last survey.
The Most Important Aspect of Your Writing Process Is…
A few weeks back, we asked you to select from our list, the aspect of the writing process that you felt was most important. The winner, with 27.3 percent of the vote: Characters because “they just have to come to life for me (and be believable) if my readers are going to get caught up in their lives.”
A close second: Description “that pumps life into scenes…lots of sensory detail. I want to paint scenes with enough detail that my readers feel they can reach right into a word picture and pluck the rose I’m describing.” This choice received 22.7 percent of your votes.
And Story Line came in third (18.2 percent)…”I have to have a great story to tell. Otherwise, what’s the point?”
Interestingly, only a compelling opener and time/place (setting) received zero votes. As important as a compelling opener is, strong characters and detailed description are critical. Well done.
Vote for Your Favorite Video Memoir Book Trailer
I’ve selected four more videos that, I think, were created by the authors (perhaps with a little help from their friends) and representative of what we–as writers, first and foremost–could expect from ourselves.
- View the four short book trailers and select your favorite
- Follow this link to our SurveyMonkey questionnaire and answer the two (2) questions. The first question asks you to select your favorite video. You can only pick one. The second question gives you a chance to list reasons why. You can check as many reasons as you wish and even add one of your own.
- If you want to add a comment about the videos, please add to the comments section directly below this post.
- Have fun with this.
