Post #24 – Women’s Memoirs, ScrapMoir – Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett
My son, Edward, called one year to wish us a Happy Easter. When I reminded him of his promise to send me his famous oatmeal raisin cookie recipe, he agreed to read it to me right then. He calls it The Ultimate Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, Version 1.0.
Edward worked for several software companies, including Microsoft, and was used to the notion of multiple versions. He assumed that it would take several iterations before he got the bugs out of this recipe. However, he liked the first version so much that he never got to Version 2. I’ve made very minor changes (hence Version 1.1) and give it to you exactly as I make them.
But, there’s a bit more to this story. Edward served these cookies to his dad one time. Then for the next several years, his dad agreed to do Edward’s taxes, as long as he was paid in The Ultimate Oatmeal Raisin Cookie. Still later, when Edward switched to a local tax person, he mentioned that he always paid his dad in cookies. She responded, “I think I’ll have to charge you more than that.”
