Journaling Our Way to Kendra’s Birthday: Day 1

JOURNALING IN MASSACHUSETTS

Kendra Bonnett’s birthday will soon be here. As many of you know, Kendra is younger than I am. She’d probably say “much younger.” I’d say “nine years younger.” That means she will soon turn 60, a number she’s not fond of. So I decided I’d better come east from Oregon and help her celebrate. And since she didn’t want to celebrate being 60, we’d have KENDRA’S FABULOUS FINAL FIFTIES FLING — a weeklong trip in the Berkshires and Hudson River Valley.

We invite you to share in our celebration of friendship.

JOURNALING OUR WAY TO 60

The adventure began today, May 28. Kendra drove down from Maine to Sudbury, Massachusetts where we were staying. She parked her car and we all climbed into our rental car. Computers, hard drives, and cables occupied more space in the trunk than clothes. But what do you expect from memoir writers and coaches.

Kendra was a little late because she needed to finish work for two of our clients. However, we still arrived in Great Barrington in plenty of time for dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant (think falafels, hummus, vegetarian dolmas). A special treat was being able to sit outdoors to eat.

journaling, memoir, memoir writing, autobiographyWe each went to our rooms to work for a while and then will meet at 10 pm for a cup of tea, a bite of chocolate, and a few hazelnuts that I brought from Oregon. Most of the world’s supply of hazelnuts, also known as filberts, are grown in Oregon. So they are the perfect gift for me to bring.

journaling, memoir, memoir writingMy partner and I went out to look for china mugs to use on our journey as styrofoam cups just don’t make it for this special trip. As you can see, we found great ones that just happen to be called “Friends Mugs.”

Be sure to come back tomorrow to see what we’ve done.

PPS Neither Kendra nor I like to have our pictures taken. However, how can we possibly journal our way toward her birthday without a few pictures of us. Below is our first joint photo of the trip, toasting with our new Friends mugs.
