catnav-interviews-active-3Post #38 – Women’s Memoirs, Author Conversations – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler

Susan Parker“Writing has always called to me,” said Susan Parker during our interview, “but I felt I had to be pragmatic, so I majored in business.” So many women deny the voice that urges them to write. That’s why our interviews with published women authors let you ask questions about memoir writing and hear the insights of these women who have given voice to their lives.

Susan Parker, author of Walking in the Deep End, is one of these wonderful women who have not only brought their personal stories into the light but who are also willing to share what they have learned in the process.

Listen to Susan as she discusses:

— Relationships with family and friends after publication of her book;
— Balance as the necessary ingredient in memoir writing;
— Discussion with family before writing a memoir;
— Learning through the process of writing;
— Early lessons on marketing a memoir;
— Importance of developing a story structure that works for you;
— Next writing projects.

Then Susan graciously read her opening paragraphs and discussed all that she sought to achieve in that initial exposure that a reader has to her words.

Kendra and I thoroughly enjoyed talking with Susan and think you’ll get many ideas from her.
