Post #200 – Women’s Memoirs, Writing Prompts and Life Prompts – Matilda Butler

The Holidays are Here
Happy Holidays from Women’s Memoirs. It’s been a great year for us and we hope its been your best year ever. Have you been writing? Have you new stories or vignettes to share with family and friends during this holiday season? Stories make one of the best possible gifts of all time.
And Speaking of Gifts
I thought it would be fun to create a memoir writing prompt around the idea of gifts. Sure. Gifts sound materialistic. But there are many kinds of gifts and there is giving as well as receiving. So I hope you’ll join me in celebrating gifts today.
Memoir Writing Prompts:
Choose one or more of these prompts and write for five minutes on each. Just go with the flow. Write and write and write. See what words come tumbling out. Feel your emotions and let them become part of your writing.
1. What is the best gift you ever gave as a child? (I gave my mother a series of IOUs…”I owe you one breakfast in bed.” “I owe you two cleanings of the glass top table.” Now, as an adult, I look back on those IOUs and think they were my most clever creation.)
2. What is the best gift that you have ever given as an adult? (Making food-based Christmas presents for everyone in the family two years ago.)
3. Have you ever given a family member one of your written stories for the holidays? If not, you still have time to polish a vignette you have been writing. Stories just may become your favorite gift to give.
