Memoir Writing Prompt Seen on the Horizon
Work, play, work, play. Well, okay. Since Kendra’s been here for her annual visit from her home in Maine, it’s been more like work, work, play, work, work, work, play. But as you can tell from the video below, we’ve also had lots of fun.
Videos can be storytelling just as writing can be. So if you just watched the video, you know that I spied a lighthouse in the distance and promptly told Kendra I was sure it would be part of my next writing prompt. So here are two prompts. Try either or both. I hope they will give you something a little different to think about.
You might add these prompts to a journaling exercise or just use them as warm-ups for you day’s memoir writing.
Writing Prompt
1. Create a list of three people who have been your personal lighthouse. What have they done to light the way for you or to bring you out of darkness. Choose one person and write for 10 minutes about the person, the event or circumstance, the change the person created in you.
2. Write about a time when you became your own lighthouse — when you saw the light and changed something you were doing or a way you were thinking. Reflect on what you were like before you saw the light and after. Write for 10 minutes about the before-you and the after-you.
