Book Business PaperclipPost #47 – Women’s Memoirs, Book Business – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler

Happy Saturday. I’m offering up a little video memoir potpourri for today.memoir-video

You Ought to Be in Pictures

Apparently Women’s Memoirs is not the only one to see an interesting connection between YouTube and memoir. It looks as though director Kevin Macdonald and experimental filmmaker Ridley Scott get it, too.

So, first YouTube brought us the Google Search Stories Video Creator, which we featured in our Women’s Memoirs May contest. (Here are the results, in case you missed them.) Now YouTube is inviting us to tell our stories.

As they describe it the event: “One world. 24 hours. 6 billion perspectives.” YouTube wants us to capture on video a slice of our lives on July 24, 2010 (a video memoir of our day) and submit it to YouTube. Ridley Scott will edit these into a documentary that he’ll debut at the Sundance Film Festival, January 2011. I guess we’re talking collective memoir. Actually, I have a new term that I’ve been playing with…community memoir. Follow the link to get more details on Life In a Day and how you can participate.

A Little Music Video to Write Memoir To…

I couldn’t resist including this. Enjoy.

And in deference to my TV generation cohort, I must include this clip about Jon Provost’s 2007 memoir called Timmy’s in the Well.” Like Harry Smith, I too never missed a Lassie episode growing up. I must confess, however, that I always saw Timmy as the replacement boy because I’m just old enough to remember Tommy Rettig who played Jeff Miller. This is probably the first TV show I recall.

Audio and Video Gear on the Cheap for Memoir Writers Ready to Market Their Work

Last week I posted about video (surprise, surprise) over on Story Circle Network’s blog Telling HerStories. I created a list of gear (hardware and software) needed to get started. I want to refer you to that post and my list, in case you haven’t yet seen it. I think you’re going to be surprised at how little equipment you need to get started…and how much of it is free. You can click the link to read “2 Quick Video Tips and a Link to Our Newest Writing in Five Video.”

There’s one more tool I want to tell you about, but I’ll wait until next week and give it the coverage it deserves. Have a great week. Now get to recording!

Women’s Memoirs Reminders:

There’s still time to vote for your favorite memoir video trailer; here’s the link.
And we’re running two writing contests this month. One for ScrapMoir vignettes about pets and the other about food and summer abundance. The deadline for both is July 31. Here’s the link for our Women’s Memoirs contests.
