“I’ve been teaching writing for twenty-four years, have taken Writer’s Digest workshops, … have written two novels and read countless books on writing by such authors as Margaret Atwood and Noah Luke. …Matilda and Kendra have taught me things about imagery and voice I never knew and that I am excited to apply to my writing right away. These ladies are encouraging, intelligent, and must themselves be tremendously excellent writers. I would take any workshop they offered and am motivated to read their published work. Thank you for giving me real tools to assist me in building my memoir into a stronger more marketable piece of work.” —Amanda G., TX

NEW ONLINE MEMOIR WRITING WORKSHOP

We have just announced a new memoir writing workshop that we are offering through Story Circle Network. The three-session workshop begins April 1 and ends April 22, 2010. There will be no class during the April 15 tax week. Hopefully, you get your taxes done sooner than we do. But just in case, we thought it better to not have to write during that week.

ONLINE MEMOIR WRITING CLASS DESCRIPTION

Writing Alchemy: Quick-Start Method begins with the five key elements of writing and learning to use them effectively. Our Quick-Start Deconstruction Exercise helps you peel away the individual story elements and begin using the Writing Alchemy technique immediately. Then, with all the elements standing ready, we’ll show you how to construct an authentic story–more intimate, more compelling and better able to engage your readers. Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler, your co-instructors will use conference calls, writing exercises, and feedback to help you build a powerful vignette.

To find out more about this workshop and to register, please go to Story Circle Network’s Online Class Website.

Fees: Story Circle Network fees are $96 for SCN members and $120 for non-members.

We look forward to having you in this exciting online workshop designed to give you new tools to significantly enhance your writing.

SPRING 2010 ALL-DAY WORKSHOPS

All our Spring classes are full. However, we urge you to consider our online workshop through Story Circle Network. We are teaching our new technique called Writing Alchemy that has been helping students for more than a year significantly improve their writing.

“I enjoyed the workshop immensely. I feel confident now that I can write my memoir. Your clearly defined planned and execution steps will guide me in the coming months.” -Jackie F.

“An excellent class — very helpful information, presented well. -Shirley J.

UPCOMING 2010 CONFERENCE WRITING WORKSHOP

Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett are pleased to announce that we have been invited to present our Writing Alchemy workshop at the 2010 East of Eden Writers Conference in Salinas, CA

East of Eden Writers Conference: September 24-26. Matilda and Kendra’s Writing Alchemy workshop will be Saturday September 25.

“Matilda and Kendra are both attentive and insightful teachers, readers and listeners. The class was well organized, fun and inspiring.” —Tracy W., PA

“This was my first online writing course—it exceeded my expectations. I was concerned that feedback from instructors would be vague or so encouraging as to miss the point of critical commentary. That was not the case. Matilda and Kendra were respectful of our various skill levels, balancing positive reinforcement with saying the ‘hard stuff’ we needed to hear so that we could improve upon a sentence, paragraph, or concept.” —Judith G., NH

Lemon Balm for Comfort and Regeneration You’ll find lemon balm in our Memoir Garden. Lemon balm is for comfort and regeneration. Writing a memoir is not always a comforting task. We are looking at our lives to make sense of them, making an effort to understand how we got to where we are today, trying to pass on our lessons learned so that we and others might benefit. Lemon balm’s significance in the Memoir Garden is to remind us of the long-term benefit and sense of comfort or regeneration we get from our writing.
