Post #67 – Women’s Memoirs, Rosie the Riveter – Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett
Memoir Writers: Here’s a Publishing Opportunity for You
So many families have females who worked during World War II — maybe they were in the service, maybe they were in factories, maybe they were “Government girls,” maybe they maintained the family farm while their husbands were overseas, or perhaps they volunteered with the Red Cross. Woman contributed in so many ways to America winning WWII.
Honoring those women and writing these family stories is a wonderful opportunity for everyone interested in memoir writing.
I’d like to share with you an opportunity to publish these stories.
Stacy Flankey, General Manager of Altissimo Recordings, sent us an email describing this opportunity. Her company is in the midst of working on a new CD. Specifically, Stacy works at American Patriotic Classics/Altissimo Recordings, a record label that distributes the music of the U.S. military bands.
She told us how excited she is to be creating a tribute to “Rosie the Riveter” CD. She wrote:
“The CD will feature music of the WWII era. We wanted to do something special for the liner notes of this project. We are seeking out personal stories, pictures, biographies, Rosie tattoos, etc. to compile and create our liner notes. We already have found one “Rosebud” that will be writing the big bulk of the notes, but wanted to reach out and include others as a tribute to other Rosies.” –Stacy Flankey
As perhaps the only memoir writer in your family, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to write about your mother or grandmother if she worked during World War II. Craft the story using all the best techniques that you know — a strong opening, clear character descriptions, a strong story line, and a powerful ending. Write your story, submit it to Stacy Flankey (details below), and consider writing it and submitting it for possible inclusion in the liner notes of this special CD.
If your story is chosen, you get a free copy of the CD. And just for submitting, you will get a special 25% off coupon for the CD when it comes out.
DETAILS
Please send your story to stacy@militarymusic.com by October 22nd. So that it doesn’t get lost in Stacy’s emails, be sure to put ROSIE THE RIVETER in the subject line.
