Post # 23 – Women’s Memoirs, Author Conversation – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler

Your Blackberry as a tool for writers? Yes, you read that right. This great idea is just one of many that come out in our Memoir Author Author Conversation with Alyse Myers, author of Who Do You Think You Are? Listen to the recording of that conversation where Alyse spoke openly about the decision to finally put on paper what she says she had previously written in her head and parked in her brain.

Alyse concluded the interview by saying that she personally responds to anyone who sends her an email. So if you have more questions, you can contact her through her website: Click Here.

In addition, she answered the following questions posed by visitors to this site plus a few extras that Kendra and I asked:

1. As a private person, how do you become comfortable with writing a public memoir?

2. How do I get the courage to write my life when I was constantly criticized and belittled – often simply for having my own unique thoughts – as a child? I learned very early that sharing who I was only brought pain and shame.

3. I am working on my memoir starting with my resentment and hatred of my father but by the end, the vapor of hatred slowly vanishes into oblivion. Does your writing give you any kind of healing?

4. How did you decide on the organization of the individual vignettes that you write?

5. What is the value of an outside editor?

6. Did you share your memoir manuscript with your sisters before you published it?

7. How do you balance expressing your emotions with attention to the facts of the stories?

8. And others.
