Memoir Blog Says “We’re Number 1. We’re Number 1.”

Memoir blog is Number 1As a baseball fan, I love watching games late in the season when team fans put on their foam fingers and chant “We’re #1. We’re #1.” I’ve rarely had a home team good enough for those chants, but still it is fun even to watch other teams’ fans filling the air with this brightly colored sports paraphernalia.

Baseball season 2013 is long behind us and Spring Training 2014 is just a twinkle in the eyes of managers and players. Yet at Women’s Memoirs, we’re well into our shouting. Yes, Kendra and I have decided to not order foam fingers but are still thinking about a special ring tone that announces to the world that we’re #1.

SCN star bloggerAnd what do we mean? We have received the fantastic news from Story Circle Network (SCN) that http://WomensMemoirs.com has just been voted the Super Star Blog of 2013.

Thank you to all the SCN members who gave us this incredible honor. We are thrilled and grateful to have such a prestigious and valuable organization and its members acknowledge this blog.

Each month during the year, one blog is chosen as the Star Blog. At the end of the year, the association narrows the list to four blogs and then invites all the members to cast their votes to choose the one Super Star Blog for 2013.

Don’t know Story Circle? We assume that most of our readers are well acquainted with SCN. Story Circle is the one membership organization we know that is devoted to helping women tell their life stories. And if you missed our blog earlier this month, we passed on information about SCN’s upcoming Stories from the Heart Conference, held in Austin, Texas on April 11-13. If you are serious about your writing, that’s the place to go.

We Promised a Writing Prompt

While it is tempting to go on and on about us, this blog is all about you, about authors, and would-be authors of memoir. So we decided to turn our news into a memoir writing prompt for you.

Memoir Prompt
Think about a time in the past week when you felt especially happy, joyful, pleased. What caused you to feel those positive emotions? Write all the details. It may have been as simple as an interaction with a family member that made the other person feel good and you shared in that feeling. Maybe it was something that someone said to you. There can be so many reasons. When you write about this happy time (remember it can be a small story because every situation that brings joy is worth recalling and hence reliving) include where you were, who was involved, what was said or thought, maybe even sensory details.

Write for 10 minutes. We are willing to bet that at the end of that time, you’ll feel at least some of the same joy that the original experience brought you. You may even be in the middle of a sad or difficult situation in your life. But if you reflect on the week, you’ll probably find short periods, even just a couple of minutes when your spirits were lifted, when you saw, experienced, remembered joy and happiness. That’s what you can write about for this exercise.

Thanks

Thanks Story Circle Network for this award and for leading us toward encouraging others to write about their moments of joy, excitement, happiness.
