Post #87 – Women’s Memoirs, News – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler
Memoir Writing News
This year has been an exciting one for Women’s Memoirs with many new efforts and publications. In just one month, on December 31, our final seasonal memoir writing contest ends. We hope that you will be one of those who submits a vignette for possible publication. The winning stories will be published as an ebook in our new series of Annotated Memoirs.
Below are the rules. If you have any questions, we’ll be delighted to hear from you. We know that December gets to be a busy time, so start writing your story soon. You’ll want to have enough time to go over your story, edit it, even read it out loud as that’s a good way to find errors and think about better ways to express your memory.
Be sure to share this information with your writing friends.
Winter 2012 Memoir Contest – Ends Soon: Winter brings a different mood than the other three seasons. The year is winding down. Most of us spend more time indoors. This is a season for reflection — for looking back at what was as well as looking forward to what will come. The closer we get to December 31, the more aware we are of our accomplishments and our unfulfilled dreams for the year. At the same time, we think about what we want to achieve in the coming year. So part of our winter is looking back and part is looking forward. Send us a memory, written as a story, about your most vivid winter. It might be an event from one day or it might encompass the entire season. The story may have taken place in your childhood years or more recently. Be sure to write in a way that draws us into your story. Give your story a strong opening. Let us see the main person in your memoir vignette.
1 — Deadline is December 31, 2012
2 — Length is between 500 – 1500 words
3 — Be sure to give your story a title, craft a powerful opening and closing
4 — Include one or more photos, if possible
5 — Email contest entries to:
matilda (at) womensmemoirs (dot) com
(Either attach your entry to the email as a .doc file or copy and paste the entry into the email itself. Either way is fine. Attach any photos to the email, we prefer .jpg format.)
Memoir Contest Bonus
Consider printing multiple copies of the story you submit to our contest. Give one copy to each member of your family as a special gift. Sharing your legacy with friends and family creates a one-of-a-kind gift that only you can give.
