Post #24 – Women’s Memoirs, Book Business – Kendra Bonnett and Matilda Butler
Even though I’m posting this brief blog under our Book Business category, I could just as easily put it under Potpourri because there’s a little bit of everything happening at the Stories From the Heart V Conference here in Austin, Texas. Matilda and I are still here…in fact, today is a jam-packed day of workshops, panels, luncheons and fun. At 11 AM we’re participating in Helen Ginger’s “Getting Published”
panel along with Laurie Wagner Buyer, Susan J. Tweit, and Linda Wisniewski. We’re looking forward to it.
Yesterday, Matilda and I conducted our two-hour, pre-conference workshop, entitled “Writing With Heart: 5 Easy Steps to Writing with Emotion, Energy and Color.” This was the official kickoff for our Writing Alchemy workshop and provided the 80-some attendees with a preview of our new Writing Alchemy book, due out in a few months. We packed the time with ideas, technique and writing exercises…and could easily have filled
another whole hour.
We’re having a great time networking with other writers as well as putting faces to many of the women we’ve met online and by phone (doing our Author Conversation interviews). If you weren’t able to attend this year, mark your calendar now for 2012 when Story Circle will be hosting Stories From the Heart VI.
Stay tuned for more. And now I have to get back to the activities.

We’ve had a full day of writing activities. The publishing panel was, quite possibly, the best panel I’ve ever experienced. Panel members were very knowledgeable and had excellent information and experiences to share with the audience. The questions from the audience were great and stimulated some terrific discussions.
This evening’s Open Mike readings were inspiring. Matilda and I sat in on one session where six of our students read vignettes or poems. They all did us proud.
Hi,
Do you by any chance have a list of book contests? I am sorry to take you off track for this question since I know you are busy. Someone had a list and I can’t remember who.
Judy, We don’t maintain a comprehensive list. We do list contests from time to time. A couple of other resources you should check:
http://www.writersdigest.com/competitions
http://www.writers-editors.com/Writers/Contests/contests.htm
http://helenginger.com/contests.htm
Hope these help.
