Kendra, my mother was Margaret (Buehrig)Brenneman. She lived in Minier, IL all of her life. Your grandfather, Clarence Buehrig, was her uncle. Clarence, and my mother's father, William Samuel Buehrig, were brothers. As a child, I remember your mother, Rosemary, visiting my home and actually sketching the Rice Krispie elves on tissue paper for me. I corresponded with your mother for many years, but lost track of her at some point. I would love to hear from you, Kendra, as I am very interested in my family tree.

Kendra,
What a loving, lovely tribute to what sounds like a wonderful mom. This is so well crafted. I felt as if I were right there with you. Actually, I wish I'd been your sibling! You're a lucky lady to have grown up with such a creative, thoughtful mom. Thanks so much for sharing these memories of her. Moo is quite memorable.

Kendra, thanks for sharing this story of your creative and energetic mother. I'm tickled to know where those iconic figures of Snap, Crackle and Pop came from. Your story was beautifully written and full of sweetness, just like those donut holes and caramel apples. But the proof of Moo's success is that she could turn vegetable beef soup into a holiday treat! I'm going to remember her, and that's, of course, one of the great reasons to write your stories. Thanks again. Susan/s

Oh, CJ I agree with all that you said. While many, many children do have good clean fun at these festivities, there are so many more that will never know what fun they can be do to anti-holiday, and what many think Halloween represents...to me it was pure fun. My parents made it fun, and even my parents would dress up. My sister and I loved it.
Although, I do not think Halloween is a holiday at all...I hope it will always be around for kids as a fun time in their lives. It doesn't have to scare little ones or be part of a cult movement. Life is what you make it, and so should Halloween. Kids need to have fun at times, and just 'let go' when they can, and Halloweed says it all. There is reality and there is make-believe. Martha Stewart had a wonderful program on Halloween just a few days ago on how to decorate inexpensively, etc. Did you know that keeping a carved pumpkin in a cold place wrapped with cellophane will keep it preserved until it's time to put it out? You can also dye webbing with food coloring, too. Have fun.
