Journaling Day 7: The Party’s Over, It’s Back to the Salt Mines

journaling, memoir, memoir writing, autobiography

The final day of our fantastic week, our seven-day journey in celebration of Kendra’s upcoming 60th birthday, arrived today. We got up in North Adams, MA, eager to visit the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MOCA), our treat of the day.

journaling, memoir, memoir writing, autobiographyOf course, we have worked on the road. In addition to the daily blogging, Kendra and I have spent hours working on our upcoming products. Here’s what you can anticipate over the coming six months:

1. Marketing Your Book: Strategies for Success (Our first ebook.)

2. Writing Alchemy: The Art and Science of Turning Your Words Into Gold (Yes. We know how long it has taken us, but our materials keep improving through our teaching and we are now finalizing our book.)

journaling, memoir, memoir writing, autobiography3. JACKPOT: HOW TO CREATE A WINNING STORY. Our new two-day workshop. You’ll hear from us soon about this one.

4. Rosie’s Daughters: The “First Woman To” Generation Tells Its Story, Second Edition with an all new chapter focused on the decade since I interviewed an extraordinary group of ordinary women born during World War II. My most recent interviews brought to light a number of surprises about the past 10 years as well as goals for the decade of their 70s.

5. Our online version of The [Essential] Women’s Memoir Writing Workshop is almost ready to go live. We’ve sold hundreds of copies of our DVD version over the past several years. What’s great about thenew online version is that you will now be able choose individual lessons to purchase as well as the entire set of 21 lessons.

journaling, memoir, memoir writing, autobiographyWe drove our rental car back to where Kendra left her car for the week, transferred the new books purchased along the way, plus her luggage back into her bright red Mini Cooper, and said our goodbyes. Goodbye, that is, until we next Skype in another day or two with a progress update on our to-do list.

Thanks for joining us on our travels through the Berkshires and the Hudson Valley.

Home a little before midnight. I’m tired and ready for sleep, but my head is swimming with ideas, images, concepts and talk about projects Matilda and I are committed to completing. What a wonderful holiday.

If you have to turn 60–and let’s face it, it beats the alternative–this was the way to do it.

Happy Birthday, Kendra! I just turned 72 last week-end, so 60 looks mighty good to me. But guess what? I’m doing great, had three stories published this week, so no slowing down for this (old) gal!

As our school yearbook advisor, I just now had time to read through all seven days of your fun-filled trip through the Berkshires. What a great way to ease into your 60s, Kendra. And who better to share it with but a close buddy who shares your thirst for writing. I love the Berkshires. My brother has a “cottage” in Stockbridge. My daughter and I will spend the week of July 4th at Tanglewood and look forward to hearing James Taylor. The last time I was there, I went through Norman Rockwell’s museum. I absolutely loved it and wanted to see Edith Wharton’s Mount, but ran out of time. I will definitely do that this time and may return to Rockwell’s place. Thanks for all the great journaling. I enjoyed every word of it. And welcome to the 60s!

Hi Judy, you absolutely have to get to Edith Wharton’s home. It’s fabulous. We didn’t get to do Tanglewood as the season hadn’t started yet. We’re already talking about the next trip. You’ll have a wonderful Fourth of July in this very patriotic area. Since we were there just after Memorial Day, we saw flags and bunting galore. It was wonderful.

Congratulations on your accomplishment, Nancy. Three stories in a week…that’s good work. As for the age thing, it’s all relative. Plus I’m really only just reaching middle age since I plan to make it to 120.

What a wonderful journey. I felt like I was there with you. A memorable journey to 60 . Miss you both.

Kendra Bonnett June 13, 2011 at

Hi Rigmor! Glad you enjoyed our trip…vicariously. As you read, we had a great time buzzing around the Berkshires and Hudson River Valley. If you’ve never traveled in that area, I highly recommend it. Miss you too. Maybe you’ll decide to join us in Las Vegas in October. That will really be fun.
